Transneft North has opened the Industrial Safety branded laboratory at the Ukhta State Technical University at the Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection Department.
The overhaul of the laboratory was carried out by Transneft North as part of the Industrial Safety and Industrial Control year announced at Transneft in 2020. Modern laboratory and demonstration equipment, training stands, and a cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation simulator were installed.
The successful organisation of industrial safety at enterprises directly depends on the specialists’ skills level in this field. In order to create conditions for effective training of future specialists, visual high-tech stands and simulators are currently used.
The construction of a modern complex of laboratories equipped with up-to-date equipment will allow providing training oil and gas department students in the field of occupational health and industrial safety.
In 2019, which was declared the Year of Occupational Safety at Transneft subsidiaries, the Occupational Health educational laboratory complex of the department was repaired, and so were the classroom and the laboratory with modern laboratory equipment. During 2018-2019, the Company allocated more than RUB 8 million for the implementation of the project.
“Together with the management of the company, we carefully chose the equipment for the laboratory complex. Currently, students study using up-to-date equipment, gaining all the necessary knowledge in the field of industrial safety. We are sure that after graduation they will be prepared for work at the production site as much as possible,” Elena Nor, Head of the Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection of the Ukhta State Technical University, said.
For reference: The Ukhta State Technical University is the main alma mater of Transneft North’s employees. More than 600 out of 3,000 employees of the Company have graduated from this university. In total, there are about 2,000 graduates of the Ukhta University working at Transneft’s subsidiaries.
The Department of Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection is an educational and scientific unit of the Institute of Geology, Oil and Gas Production and Pipeline Transportation, providing educational, research work, training of scientific and pedagogical personnel, as well as advanced training. The department is the most important division in the field of occupational health and safety of students of all professions and fields.
The main areas of cooperation between Transneft North and the university are the training of engineering personnel and scientific research of various problems of oil trunk transportation. Transneft North annually provides substantial financial assistance to the university and systematically upgrades and enhances its facilities and resources. The USTU has a complex of 17 laboratories and classrooms built and outfitted by Transneft, which are effectively used both in the educational process and for scientific research.
